Benjy  just lay there; I knew something was wrong...

One cloudy morning I went down to the riding school that I now keep my pony at, but I didn't have her then. Anyway, I rushed onto the yard to check which pony I was riding. They said "Harley", which made me smile. Then I went down to the bottom yard to see Benjy, my favourite pony whom I used to ride a lot.
He was lying down, covered in shavings. Then I knew something was wrong.

I asked one of of the staff what was going on and they said Benjy was ill. That was unusual as he was usually up, bright-eyed and alert, but they didn't tell me what was wrong with him.

I went in to Benjy's stable and gave him a carrot, he didn't even seem to notice it. that was when I heard the vets van pull up and I knew I was never going to see him again. Tears welled in my eyes when he tried to nuzzle my hand, then he groaned painfully, which made me cry. I don't know how long I cried for, but I still haven't been able to accept his death to this very day.

He was such a sweet pony who gave loads of people confidence and would never hurt a fly, he didn't deserve to have an ending like that, he was only nine. I shall never forget that little
pinto body lying, hurting, and I would never forget the lively little spirit who I had sworn to myself, I would buy, no matter what. he was a pony in a million.

Now he has gone I will never forget Benjy, my Benjy, my friend.
